(no subject)

My child just pointed out a male cardinal just hanging out in our garden. The female came and joined him for a little while, and then they both flew away. Now we're discussing differences in plumage and roles of the male and female birds.

Okay, it's led to a discussion of predators and now vultures. Topics change quickly; discussions with Daniel morph freely.

The act of caretaking drives me crazy sometimes, but I really like my children. Not all the time--though my love for them is constant, sometimes they can really push my buttons to the point where I don't remember what neat people they are. But they really are likable, interesting people in their own rights, both of them.

I'm glad they're in my life.

Every now and again, I contemplate my daughter's intelligence, creativity, and empathy, and marvel that I had a role in her existence.

Female cardinals? The Anglicans must have been furious! (*rimshot*)
