Tonight a possum waddled onto our screened porch. It was massive. Bigger than our cat. Far bigger.
I yelled for the family; I thought that everyone should come see it. So neat! And big! But by the time they got downstairs, it had shuffled away. I think the yelling told it to go, but it left in a singularly unhurried manner.
I wish I hadn't called for them. I did it out of wanting to share the moment, but in retrospect, I'd rather have prolonged it. I keep sneaking peeks to see if our visitor will wander back over, but so far it hasn't.
I know they can be aggressive; I wouldn't let the kids go outside, nor go out myself. I have no desire to get bitten.
But still...so cute! So big! So snuffly!

Date: 2006-01-10 03:24 pm (UTC)and I get a possum sometimes at my back door. And racoons. I love having nighttime visitors like that. My cat is all hissy, but then I just give her some catnip and she chills out.
