Music and More
Mar. 9th, 2004 06:14 pmI either got some cold that's been going around or my seasonal allergies are finally kicking in. Either doesn't matter...the end result is the same, which is that my head feels about four sizes too large and I don't have a voice. I've got that lightheaded feeling that comes from having been up most of the night coughing and hacking and then drinking too much coffee in the morning to try to make up for it.
Okay, I'm done complaining. I think.
I'm listening to this cool music my friend S. left for me on Limewire. I really love it. Cheb Mami is on right now...Parisien du Nord...it's this cool mix of French club music and Arabic chanting. Now it's Cheikha Rimitti w/the song Nouar from the album Arabica. There are two compilation albums, Arabica and Arabesque. I'm not sure which is better, but I may have to break down and buy one, in part to soothe my guilty conscience, so I don't feel like so much of a pirate. (Ahoy, me hardies! LOL.) But the music has me moving to the beat almost in spite of myself, tired and sick though I am, and it actually makes me feel good. Powerful medicine, that. :-)
The best thing about Limewire, besides pirating music (hmm...did I say that? Are any prurient governmental or music industry types listening?? I'm sure what I meant is trying out music before i rush right out to the store and contribute to the collective consumerism and capitalistic fever that make our country great. Yeah, that's it. Definitely.) is what it's done to the lexicon, specifically in terms of sexual innuendo. Lot of browsing of each other's hosts and snatching and grabbing of files going on, that sounds like even more fun than it already is (and hey, it is pretty fun).
S., in addition to giving me really cool music I never would have found on my own, has turned into a really good friend, and the very best thing about him is the conversation. By that I don't mean to downplay his other attributes. Unlike Billy Joel, clever conversation is pretty much what I live for, so it's meant as a compliment.
I wrote this earlier and then the cable went out, followed by the power. Aaarrrggghh. One was just a neighborhood glitch, the other our chronic disorganization in terms of not getting the bill paid on time. Thankfully, both have been resolved. But my head is still pounding, even worse than before (can't listen to any music right now for therapy), so I think I'm going to lie down while I can, before the kids wake up.
If anyone's actually reading this, send happy healing thoughts my way, please. :-)
A+
