Yesterday I indulged in a bit of retail therapy, and a good part of today was spent watching a couple of DVDs that I got (on sale, 7.50 each). One was Say Anything, one of my all-time favorite movies. I'm unreasonably thrilled, almost fangirlish, to own a copy of it now, especially one acquired at such a low price. No, DVDs aren't in our budget, but for 7.50 it's a pretty easy rationalization. And I truly needed a bit of mind escape. Plus, it's Say Anything. :-D

The second one was Clash of the Titans, a childhood favorite that didn't really stand the test of time all that well, nor did I really expect it to. It was mostly for Daniel and me to watch together, although I tended to just watch in fits and starts. Part of it was a bit of squick, I think, having a vague concept of it as romantic or erotic in some way without knowing why. Seeing it at 33 made me realize/remember the effect that a very scantily clad Perseus had upon me at age 10 or so. It was precursor to desire more than desire itself, but the afterimage of the memory was both nostalgic and, well, a tad disturbing.

Anyway, Daniel went from "Where's the fighting? Is there fighting in this?" to "I want to jump into the TV and help him!" so the movie was definitely a hit with him. There were a lot of parts I hadn't remembered (and that belied the PG rating, but then, this was in the days before PG-13) but thankfully, he hasn't yet started asking me questions about virgin sacrifices. We'll see.

Dave was also trimming a palm in our front yard when he found a baby corn snake (it actually dropped on him out of one of the fronds). We're thinking about keeping it for a pet, if we can get it acclimated both to us and to indoor surroundings. It's curled up in an empty aquarium we already had, looking suitably freaked out, at the moment. I'm a little worried about it but it's moving a bit and seems to be basically okay.

I did a bit of writing today, and that felt really good. I also managed to nap for a bit, which was also good.

Not tremendously exciting, but overall a very good day; I needed one of these.

yay!

Our newest member of the family just ate its first pinkie.

Our snake seems to be adjusting well.
