May. 21st, 2006 05:58 pmWell, we got a virus on this laptop that we couldn't manage to get rid of. Dave was looking for a program and downloaded something off the 'net that was questionable, and there you go. Yes, it only takes one time of unprotected downloading and suddenly there's an unexpected arrival. Anyway, we reformatted the hard drive and went with Linux instead of Windows this time around. I'm, well, nervous, feeling like I'm not knowledgable enough to have taken this step. I'm also excited, and so far it hasn't been as difficult as I feared it might be.
Having read
chipotle's description of Ubuntu here, I decided to try it out for myself, figuring that it might appeal to me, one of the 90% of all users who really appreciate having defaults set automagically. Anyway, I've had Ubuntu on my machine for all of about 30 minutes, but I really like it so far.
I'll post observations as I, well, have them. If any others of you are running Ubuntu, I'd love to hear about your experiences, too.
Weekend...Friday night I got drunk, for no good reason other than sheer exhaustion and stress and lack of judgment. Then, the following day, I got to spend from 9 to 7 wandering around EPCOT in bright sunlight with a killer headache. Even given that, though, I had a great time visiting with my mom. This afternoon was spent visiting with my stepmom at Downtown Disney.
It was pretty much a belated Mother's Day weekend, but I had largely stress-free visits with both of them and got them each presents that they seemed to like.
Things are largely good, but I really am exhausted. More tomorrow, perhaps... Plus, it's Dave's turn to play with the new OS. ;-)
