Aug. 1st, 2006 12:39 pmStill kind of meh, but doing better. The weekend was hectic, and it wasn't until yesterday evening that it really hit me that M is leaving. Daniel said it best, perhaps: "Whose house are we going to visit now?" There's a certain flexibility about houses with other small children living there that you just don't have otherwise. That's not meant as a slam against my friends who don't have this lifestyle at all; it's just why I feel the lack of the friendship so acutely. We lived near each other; we liked each other and each other's kids. I don't know why it should be so hard to find that, but it is. Moms are fundamentally isolated from each other somehow, I think. Or maybe it's just me and my hermit tendencies.
Anyway, Lammas ritual was on Saturday. It went reasonably well, and I was glad to have done it, although also relieved when it was over. Daniel and I went to the beach on Sunday, because I had promised to take him before school starts. Since school starts this coming Monday, we were cutting it reasonably close. Anyway, we had a great time, only I wasn't reapplying sunburn as often as I should have. We both got burned--Daniel lightly (he tends to tan well anyway) and me, well, I'm a pretty dark shade of red in missed splotches on my back, shoulders, and chest.
Ellie developed a strange rash covering her chest and back yesterday, though she's not running a fever. I think it might be roseola or rubella, though she should have had immunizations for the latter. So maybe roseola, though she never really ran a high fever as far as Dave and I can tell. Anyway, I'm keeping her home and quiet as much as possible. If it doesn't subside by tomorrow, we'll probably go to the doctor anyway, though I'm 99.9% sure it's not chicken pox, and I'm sure she's been vaccinated at least once for that. Not sure about the booster though; I have a sneaking suspicion that we're not entirely caught up.
This morning I got up, meditated, did sun saluations, and then went back to bed for a couple more hours. I don't think that's quite how it's supposed to go, but I'm glad to be doing something, at least. Today I've been working on house stuff and just hanging out with the kids.
That's all for now, I guess. Meet the teacher is this Friday. I hope it goes well.
