So, we're discussing third grade curriculum and how Daniel will be learning cursive this year.

Daniel: Well, what I want to know is when I learn foreign.

Dave: A foreign language? Probably ninth grade.

Me: Oh, you could choose to learn a foreign language before then!

Daniel: Why would I want to do that? I HATE foreign!

Dave and me: ...?

Daniel: Except for the food. I guess that's okay. I like their meatballs.

Dave: ...???...???

Me (trying to keep from snickering):...Honey? Are you talking about IKEA?

Daniel: Yeah. I don't mind the food.

Me: Umm...do me a favor? Tell me what foreign means.

Daniel: It means Swedish things! I don't want to learn about Sweden!

So I explained to him what foreign meant. He wanted to learn Japanese before he realized that Hebrew's already his first foreign language.

I'm tired and silly, but still, I have to say - this raising kids thing can be hilarious. I'm still not sure how foreign and Sweden and IKEA all got mixed up in his brain, though.
