"What do you want to be for Halloween?" I finally got around to asking, now that I'm feeling better (unfortunately, the kids are still sick :-( ).

"A ninja," Daniel said predictably. We already have the costume; he wore it last year. Check.

"Ellie?"

"An elephant," she responded promptly.

Buh?

She was pretty emphatic about it - and frankly, given the choices I'd seen in the Party City sales leaflet, I was thrilled. I'm really not in a hurry for my four-year-old to be vamping it up the way some of the girls in the catalog are. Not to be all puritannical about it or anything: I just want her to be a kid first without all the pressure (as I see it) of being a creature capable of attracting others based upon looks. Not that she *isn't* - she's beautiful - just that I don't want it to be a focus at four.

So...an elephant. I bought the stuff for her costume yesterday while I was out shopping for her birthday present, and I/we made it this morning. (Ask for details in comments if you want them - pictures will follow, on Halloween.)

It was great fun. And I think it turned out really, really well!

As far as presents--we got her a really nice pop-up book version of Jungle Book that both kids were suitably impressed with, some lacing cards, a Dora book, and a Disney CD.

The good thing about the Disney CD is that she loves it. The bad thing about the Disney CD is that if I hear "You've Got a Friend in Me," one more time, I will be forced to leave home. :-)

Anyway, so far it's been a pretty fun day. Happy birthday to my baby girl!
