Things are overall very good, with some minor frustrations. Unfortunately, I seem to be escalating minor frustrations to major proportions lately... :-(

I haven't been writing or exercising. I love writing and exercising. Seriously. They're both spiritual rejuvenation in addition to their obvious primary functions. When I don't do either, I feel the lack, and I'm really feeling the lack.

Not much is planned for Saturday, iirc, so maybe I can get some of both done then.

My pagan group is frustrating me still. I'm not sure if I want to be part of it, not sure how to leave without hurt feelings. I think I would miss the social outlet if I didn't go...but I also think that might make room for other, more comfortable social opportunities.

Striker, our corn snake, escaped what I thought was a pretty good set-up, and we haven't been able to locate hir. Dave was planning on snakeproofing the terrarium a bit more carefully, as the snake had grown quite a bit, but we really didn't think it was time for that yet. Does anyone know how to entice a snake back to its environment? The most I can hope for is that if it doesn't come back, it will survive, either by eating mice in the attic or getting back outside and eating lizards and such.

Bhakti is doing well, though I can't get the Spay and Neuter clinic to return my calls. I may end up going with a regular vet, but I'm afraid of what the bill will be when all is said and done, especially if she has health issues. I already know she has fleas, and I suspect ear mites and possibly worms...

Yeah, I know, if this is all I can find to be worried about, my life is really really good. :-) I do know that, and I'm trying to experience it in each moment. Still - writing and exercising would definitely help.

Oh! On the good side, our basil plant was dying, and we were sad...and now, new baby basil plants have sprung up all over the garden! I weeded yesterday and set up a compost pile in the corner of our yard. Composters, I could use your best tips. Dave is worried about smell but willing to play along for now... :-D

And today I will be seeing C. Yay!

I can help!

Snake Place bowls of water close to places where a snake might like to hide. Some seem to like it behind the fridge. They will have a need to find water. I once had a snake missing for 8 weeks, and we found him inside the toilet tank.

Cat When I took in Teacake, I received a grant to cover the cost of neutering him. This was offered by a private individual, administered through the local municipal animal shelter, to low-income folks who take in strays. You might want to call yours to see if they know of such grants locally.

Compost Two things will help greatly with reducing compost smell:

1. Keep a pile of leaves or grass clippings next to your compost pile. Each time you add a layer of food, also add a layer of the green waste. Sawdust also works well if that is readily available to you.

2. Make sure the pile stays aerated. Some people use a pitchfork or long piece of rebar to poke holes down to the bottom. Tossing it occasionally is another way to keep it aerated, if you have it set up in such a way that it's easy to do.

Oh, and never add meat or bones or animal poo to it, ever.

Good luck!
