I got this meme via email and decided I'd post it here, for the (too?) curious...

1. Eggnog or hot chocolate? yes :-)

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? He has been known to do both. In our house, now, he usually just sets them out.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? white

4. Do you hang mistletoe? If I did, I'd want it to be in an environment where everyone kisses everyone. Or maybe this is just the lateness of the hour putting thoughts into my head. :-)

5. When do you put your decorations up? between Thanksgiving and early December

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? dressing/stuffing

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child: Probably the time my grandpa gave my cousin and me fishing rods for Christmas, hid them (in the shower, actually), and gave us clues to go around the house and find other clues and search for them. There's also the time that Santa brought me a Little Professor calculator and a Baby Don't Cry doll. Why that last made such an impression, I'm not sure.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I was eight and in third grade. Someone told me; I think it was my friend Jill. I asked my dad about it, and when he told me I cried. I think he was surprised I hadn't already figured it out. Daniel, at seven, believes wholeheartedly, and I worry a little about how he'll react to the small-t truth of no Santa, because the big-T truth is harder to explain.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? No

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? With white lights and special ornaments, some handmade by former students (or Daniel last year). That's the basic format. Within that...well, for several years we had bows, but that kind of went by the wayside. Last year we did popcorn garland, which was fun, but then I heard that it can cause bugs. This year Ellie and I painted pine cones with gold glitter (prettier than it sounds), tied ribbons on them (well, I did that part) and hung them from the tree. It was fun (and surprisingly aesthetically pleasing).

11. Snow! Love it or dread it? Love looking at it, but we tend to have a romanticized view of snow here in Florida.

12. Can you ice skate? I could the last time I tried, but it's been a long time ago, and I was lighter.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? a slalom ski that Santa brought when I was 14

14.What is your favorite holiday dessert? In the past it was always pecan pie, but lately I'm gravitating toward pumpkin.

15. What is your favorite holiday tradition? Playing Santa.

16. What tops your tree? Nothing this year, because I accidentally broke the angel. But we actually kind of like the look of nothing, so it may be a new tradition.

17. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? Giving, but I'm working on enjoying and being comfortable with receiving too.

18. What is your favorite Christmas Song? "The Holly and the Ivy"

19. Candy Canes? I can take or leave them.

I like glitter pinecones idea! Sounds good.

And I have mixed feelings about snow. I still love it on the ground and in the air, but not on the road or my driveway or walkway. :)
