Jan. 1st, 2007 01:00 pmI'll do the year-in-review a bit later.
I really loved 2006, despite or because of its eccentricities. There's something wonderful about feeling that way about a year, and something scary too. I've had those New Year's Eves where I felt something akin to, 'well, thank god that year's over,' but this wasn't one of those. Instead I've been wondering how I can be more proactive in the upcoming years, as well as more mindful. And I'm just extremely aware of how many variables feel left to the vagaries of fate, or Spirit, and that I'm pretty okay with that, if a tad apprehensive.
At any rate, resolutions...
1. Writing - I'm going to do NaPoeWriMo again. Beyond that, I haven't decided if a schedule for writing is desired (certainly it helped me to finish my one story draft of '06) or if I just want to continue with catch-as-catch-can. I also think that I'm going to focus more upon the poetry - at this point in my life, it just feels more feasible. And I have enough friends and family for plenty of material. (bwahhaha) Rewriting...would be a good thing, particularly of the aforementioned story draft, which needs quite a bit of work in the first section, and some additional character development in the rest of it.
2. Health - I'm going to do Sun Salutations and some exercises from
rowyn's S book in the mornings. This is something I can do regardless of weather or what's going on with the kids. In addition, I plan to take walks whenever I can manage it, hopefully 2-3 times a week.
I'm going to take my vitamins and my SSRI each day (harder than it sounds, apparently :-( ) and make an effort to eat at least one serving of vegetables each day. I'm also going to try to think about each food I eat in terms of its nutritive value (ie, what does this give to my body?) No completely forbidden foods, but the idea of consuming less sugar is definitely a good one. And, ideally, get to bed earlier. (
shaterri, you'll be the one to help me with this... ;-) )
3. Spirituality - devote Saturday mornings to some sort of spiritual activity, either alone or with the kids. Also, do daily japa and/or mindfulness meditation. Try to see Amma in summer of '07 if finances permit. Continue with wiccan group (this may be more social, but oh well.) Continue attending synagogue for Jewish holidays.
4. Family - Have Cat over to help organize the house (see #5). Set up a schedule for chores (again, probably with Cat's help. Cat rocks.) Do something special with the kids and Dave each Saturday afternoon. Something special doesn't have to be big - it might be watching a movie together and being entirely present for it, or doing crafts, or playing board games. Cook healthy dinners more regularly.
5. Organization - Read GTD, which I'm probably the last person on earth to read, but other people seem to be pretty excited about. Consider 'Compact,' not buying anything new in '07 (food, toiletries, experiences excepted). Reduce amount of Stuff.
6. Love - Make more romantic time for
mind_traveler. Figure out better ways to balance the romantic sides of me. Communicate well with everyone.
7. Social - FC! B, V, & R visiting in the spring! Mommy friends! Without really meaning to, I've laid a lot of groundwork for this in '06. I worry a bit about con drop, which is bound to be really tough this time, but I know how to deal with my depressive bouts, and I have support.
Overall, I'm feeling really strong socially. And proud about that, because it wasn't that long ago that I felt a huge lack here. I still miss Michelle, but hopefully I'll see her too, sometime in '07.
