Me: So, I'm going to this thing this afternoon...it's sort of like a protest. It's to say that if boys want to marry boys, they can; and if girls want to marry girls, they can. Not that you have to or anything, only if you want to. Anyway...do you guys want to come with me?

Daniel: They can already do that, so what's the point?

Me: Well...no, they can't.

Daniel: They can't? Why can't they?

Me: Well...because some people are crazy. I don't really know why.

Daniel: They really can't?

Me: Some people think it's gross. And because they think it's gross, they say that no one should be allowed to do it. But I think that anyone should be able to marry who they want.

Daniel: Well, yeah. I mean, I think it's gross. I don't want to do it. But they should be able to.

eta: Both my kids support me, but neither actually wants to go with me to City Hall. They think it sounds boring. (Dave is supportive too, but declines due to leg issues and job visibility issues.)

Ellie, on signs: I think we should make a sign that says, "Girls can marry girls!" Would that be a good idea?

Me: Yeah! But what about the boys?

Ellie: I don't want to make one for the boys! Girls rule!

We're going to our local one, so I talked to Rhys about it this morning. I said something like "I want to make sure when you grow up if you want to get married you can choose whomever you like." He said "Well, that will be a long time till then, so maybe we should just do it sooner than that."

I don't know...am I an ally? I'm fairly invisibly queer at this point in my life.

One of the things mentioned at the rally was the necessity for each person to be out so that we can put a face to queerness for each person, so that it's harder for discrimination to flourish within society.

I'm really having to ponder this, as a bisexual and polyamorous person in a heterosexual partnership with a heterosexual person. I don't want to hurt Dave OR to hurt others (including myself) through silence.

I'm not sure what the answer is for me personally. But I want to be clear that while I'm an ally, I'm also the B in LGBT.

(and pansexual's probably a closer descriptor, but then that further complicates things)
