Okay, so I love the icon I have now, which I snatched from some ad that was on Facebook. The filk part of it makes me want to giggle and sing the line.

To be clear, I do think that Bea Arthur is hot. So it's not meant to be poking fun at her. It's meant as a subtle critique on standards of beauty and the lyrics of the song. Bea Arthur did Maude when she was in her fifties. She was older, different, and - imo - gorgeous and classy.

But I'm wondering if that's a little subtle and if it just looks like I'm poking fun at Bea Arthur. And even that I think would be okay if it were with a loving spirit, which it would be, and not mocking her.

How does it come across? Should I change it, or just leave it because of what it means to me?

Thoughts?

I think just about the only way that would come across as mocking Bea Arthur would be as part of some larger mockery. I can't imagine anyone who actually reads your journal taking it that way.

To me, it comes across as poking fun at the song, and/or another giggly gem of the internet's vast non-sequitur factory.

I think it's great! And it comes across to me pretty much as you intended.

I took it for a commentary on different ideas and ideals for sex appeal. :) I think it works as intended!

I will miss the green beribboned fingers making the heart shape, though. That icon is beautiful, even moreso for what it symbolizes. <3

It got hard to look at for what it symbolizes, though I still have it as my facebook icon.

Hmmm. I can see people reading it as ironic, but not really as cruel in the slightest. Let's face it, the Goddess Bea is usually invoked with irony these days anyhow. I suspect that she always appreciates a little flattery being thrown into the mix. As Bea Arthur's duly appointed vicar upon Earth*, I approve. :)

OMG, hon, I love you even more (if such a thing is even possible) for being Bea Arthur's duly appointed vicar.

Naaaah, you're fine. Bea Arthur had one of the best voices in the whole world.

The only time I really heard her sing was on The Golden Girls, but she did have a lovely, rich voice.
