So last night was PTA Skate Night for our school, and it was really fun. I love skating. Ellie's insistence that she Didn't Need Me At All was a little disconcerting, though her skating really has improved a lot.

On our way out, the sign for the skating rink was blinking, and at first I didn't know what it was. It looked like the whole world was lighting up, then going pitch dark, then lighting up again. Somehow this led to Daniel saying that God was blinking at me, trying to send me a message.

I thought about that. What would God's message be? I decided God was telling me, "It's okay. You're doing just fine, and everything is okay."

So I shared that with the kids, and then it turned into a meme. I asked Daniel, "If God were sending you a message, right now, what would it be?" After some discussion of his various obsessions of the moment, he decided, "I think God's telling me to chill out a little."

Then we asked Ellie. Her response was quick, unhesitating.

"You don't have to just splash in puddles! You can bring the dog with you and let her splash too!"

I am such a believer in this. I honestly think a lot of illness and even just negative mental states can be prevented by listening to our bodies when they tell us they need sleep (and other stuff like water or vegetables, for that matter :-P)

I completely agree. I think sometimes people forget that we're animals, too! We need to be fed and watered and groomed to be healthy. ;)
