Daniel's reasons for moving to Canada:

1. it's a peaceful country
2. it has the best maple syrup in the world
3. it's the bear capital of the world and he likes bears

Ellie wants to move all around the world to meet all of the animals and then come back to her house where I am taking care of her pets for her.

*laughs* Oh, don't joke about that. I have plenty of my own reasons for moving up there.

So, who's joking? :) Seriously, you try and immigrate, we'll see what support we can offer.

Absolutely seconded. I have a family member with inside knowledge of the immigration system, too. I think I can safely offer his help.

That's really cool. :-)

Just to be clear - I made the post because Daniel started talking about Canada out of the blue, and I thought his comments were cute/funny. But there is a part of me that really does want to investigate it - Canada seems saner politically (though I know it has its own issues too) and just generally a place more in line with our values. Plus, I speak French. :-)

Anyway, thanks so much for your offer to help; we'll definitely keep it in mind. :-)

Canada's big political issues are things like three million dollars going missing in an ad campaign targeting Quebec voters for a federalist party, or what to do with the budget surplus (which has only recently dried up, after fifteen years of balanced and/or surplus budgets.) They're confusing, but I do believe they're saner, yes.

Speaking French gives you extra immigrant points, making it easier to get here in the future, but it doesn't do very much for your employability if you're less than completely fluent. Then again, if you wanted to qualify as a teacher again and try your hand at primary/junior, you'd be a shoo-in if you had French qualifications.

Oh, is that something you're seriously considering? This interests me because, as rumblings on my journal may have suggested, I'm doing likewise...though it'll take a while, since I'm a ways off from even meeting the proof-of-funds bar.

Not seriously, though after [livejournal.com profile] pyat's post I'm tempted to at least investigate. :-) I always thought it'd be next to impossible to emigrate.
